RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

UPDATE 22/04/2011

A massive "Thank You" to everyone who's supported this appeal so generously: together we have raised over £1000 for the RNLI. In fact, taking Gift Aid into account, we've raised well over £1100.

Thank you all!

Rog

I volunteered for the St. Davids Lifeboat crew in 2009. Now that I've successfully completed my probationary period, I'm due to be issued my own personal kit soon. I thought it would be cool to try and raise the cost of it, to save the RNLI money.

Here's what my kit costs the RNLI:

£170 - ALB (All-Weather Lifeboat) Jacket

£165 - ALB Trousers

£319 - ILB (Inshore Lifeboat) drysuit

£166 - Crew Safety Helmet

£82 - Thermal suit (we call it the “Woolly Bear”)

£42 - ALB Steel-Toecapped Sea Boots

£16 - Titanium / Neoprene Gloves

£960 TOTAL

That is a big sum... but if all my friends on facebook were to donate just £3.95 each, together we can cover the cost of kitting me out!

Please help if you can!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the RNLI and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the RNLI.

Of course, if we manage to raise more than £960, that would be brilliant!

For every £1 given to the RNLI, 81p is spent on providing a rescue service, 3p is spent on preventative safety programmes, and 16p is spent on generating voluntary income.
