Story
Hey everyone!!!
From March 2nd-4th 2018, I will be busking around the UK over three days, in order to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. The basic idea is that I will be travelling all over the country, busking in 15 cities over three days, relying upon a ‘jailbreak’ style of travelling - i.e. relying solely on the kindness and generosity of strangers, travel companies or friends to transport me and my guitar around.
I decided to take part in this challenge for the Alzheimer’s Society largely because of personal experience, but also having spent a lot of time thinking about the huge suffering dementia causes in general. My nana was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s around three and a half years ago, but I’m one person out of millions affected by Alzheimer’s. Not only are there more than half a million people in the UK directly suffering from Alzheimer’s, but there are even more families and friends who suffer themselves indirectly.
What myself and my family quickly came to realise after my nana’s diagnosis is that Alzheimer’s is so much more than just memory loss. My nana can often be very confused about where she is, who is around her or what people are talking about. She may not know if she has eaten that day, or she may ask if she can go home when she is already there. Alzheimer’s is - in complete honesty - heartbreaking, because the person suffering is really confused about rudimentary things that we often don’t think twice about.
There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s, which is why I see it as so important that the Alzheimer’s Society is given as much support as possible to continue both the vital research and the support they offer.
So!
If you can give absolutely anything to support Kitty’s Big Busk –
happening over 2nd-4th March – I will be so so
grateful.
The cities I will be visiting are listed at the bottom of this page, and if anyone wants to join me please do! Even if you can’t play an instrument or think you’re tone deaf, this challenge isn’t focusing on musical talent – it’s doing something a little bit different to raise money for a bloody good cause. I will also be incredibly and eternally grateful for anyone who can help in my travelling around the country – whatever it is, I won’t be able to thank you enough. Just drop me a message if you want to get involved in any way and thank you thank you thank you in advance to anyone who can give anything to support me!
