As you may be aware Kolkata and West Bengal in India has just witnessed the most devastating cyclone since the last few centuries of Indian history. The Category 5 cyclone Amphan (similar to that of Hurricane Katrina which hit the USA in 2005), which hit the region on 20th May 2020, has left more than 500,000 people homeless. Most of the homes in the countryside have been destroyed, flooding has left crops submerged under waist high water, livelihoods snatched away, more than 100,000 trees uprooted and many villages in South Bengal are just wiped out as if they never existed. Preliminary estimates show the reported damages are over $13.2 billion.

In the Complete Home Apps team, we have a close affiliation with the city of Kolkata. In January 2019 we setup a Tech Hub here, we currently have numerous developers based in Kolkata, working across BT Player, Complete Wi-Fi, Whole Home W-Fi & Indigo.

A number of UK based team members have visited Kolkata over the past 18 months, these folks have experienced first-hand that it’s very much a tale of two cities with regards to poverty and wealth. Thankfully all our team members are safe and well, however there were a number of unfortunate soles who lost their lives as a result of the cyclone. The city has been ravaged and it will inevitably take months for things to get back to the way they were. This devastation caused by cyclone Amphan has added insult to injury given the world as a whole is currently grappling the Covid-19 pandemic.

We’d like to do our bit by raising money to aid the relief fund. All money raised will go to the Calcutta Rescue Fund
