Hello Friends
Some of you may remember that a rather long time ago I signed up to complete the Marathon des Sables, the self-professed “toughest foot race on earth”, only for me to duck out at the last minute. Well, I finally got round to doing it and have just returned from Morocco, with rather less skin on my feet than I started out with.
I originally raised money for the International HIV and AIDS charity, AVERT and thought it appropriate to re-open this justgiving site to raise more money for them. This charity not only manages Community Programmes to directly help prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa, it also educates people about HIV/AIDS across the world. Thanks to an endowment that covers the cost of administration, 100% of the money you donate goes towards the charity work.
All told, the week in the desert went rather well. I came 80th out of a total of 849 competitors in what was the longest MDS ever, covering 156 miles through the Sahara in seven days, in temperatures this year of up to 54oC. I'm definitely never going to do it again, so this will be your last chance to sponsor me!
