Mount Everest Base Camp Trek · 10 November 2017

We help the babies, children and young people treated at Scotland's largest children's hospital, the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. We fund medical equipment, research, play programmes and family support services to ensure that our young patients receive the best possible care and experience.

Story

Heidi's Story by Kris Mcaleese

My daughter Heidi Mcaleese was born 20th November 2016. She was 8 weeks premature and weighed just 4lb 2oz. She was very poorly and stayed in the Special Care Baby Unit for 33 days with her weight dropping as low as 3lb 6oz. From blood transfusions to breathing assistance and so much more, the treatment she received throughout was first class and if it wasn't for the nurses, doctors and staff in the children's hospital she would almost certainly not be here today. She is still receiving follow up treatment now but is growing and developing more with every passing day and as a show of my family's gratitude I am taking on this challenge in the hope of giving something back to the hospital for saving my daughter's life.

Loui’s story by Cheryl Blair

It was the 24th of December 2012 and we had our 12 week scan. The midwife was taking a while looking at her monitor, she told us we needed to see a specialist who then took us into a room and informed us Loui had a problem with his bowels and was diagnosed with Gastroschisis which basically means he would be born with his stomach organs outside his body. Loui was born 17th of June and went straight to Yorkhill within minutes of being born. Loui was initially in hospital for 4 weeks before being discharged but when he turned 1 year old he was rushed back to the children’s hospital for life saving surgery for the second time. This saved Loui’s life but even to this day he receives regular check-ups at the children’s hospital and we are eternally grateful for the work the staff, doctors and nurses have done for Loui and do for so many more kids every day.
