More information about Meningitis Research Foundation: Our vision is a world free from meningitis and septicaemia. To achieve this we fund research to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, and to improve survival rates and outcomes. We promote education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and give support to people affected.


SOME FACTS:

-Meningitis affects 5 million people globally every year

-1/10 people who get bacterial meningitis will die

-2/10 people who get bacterial meningitis are left with an impairment like
brain injury

Meningitis and neonatal sepsis together are the second biggest infectious killers of children under age 5 around the world, still killing more children in this age group than malaria. Though there has been great progress - a 21% reduction in annual deaths since 1990 - this still lags far behind the progress for other diseases such as tetanus (84%). The MRF together with other global health organisations will soon be united behind a common goal to defeat meningitis by 2030.
