Story

Hello everyone and welcome to our fundraising page. Most of you know that I’m a keen (fair weather) cyclist and for some reason enjoy doing things that I find completely challenging and daunting. But this time I’m doing it with my very best pals (James, Kenny, Sam and Paul), who also enjoy watching me struggle… and leaving me behind on the hills!

I work at Mountbatten Hampshire as a physiotherapist, specialising in palliative rehabilitation and know first hand how important our fundraising is to provide vital support to those in need. My personal goal is to ensure anyone living with a palliative condition has the means to “live well” and not just “die well”, which is where I come in!

You can find me on the in-patient unit, interacting in our Day Centre and putting patients through their paces in our rehabilitation gym space. Within the rehabilitation team we see a huge variety of patients from those going through cancer treatment and wanting to manage the side effects and stay strong throughout, or those that have neurological conditions such as MND, PSP who want to maintain their strength, independence and quality of life for as long as possible. Our patients work so hard and if they can, so can I!

So please help me in continuing to spread the message that hospice does not have to mean dying, and having a palliative condition does not mean life is over. We also support people through group activities, classes and education, such as managing fatigue and breathlessness or even making advanced care plans. We rely on fundraising to provide these services to those in need.

Every penny donated will support Mountbatten Hampshire to make sure our patients and their families have access to skilled, compassionate, and sensitive care in a place of their choice. This can include providing specialist end-of-life care to patients with life-limiting illness in their home or in our inpatient unit and day centre. We also support patients families, friends and carers through their illness and bereavement. As an independent charity, every donation makes a real impact to local people. On average, on any one day, Mountbatten Hampshire supports 600 people. If you are interested in taking part in the next ABP 10k, half or full Marathon for Mountbatten Hampshire phone 02382 548801 or email fundraisinghampshire@mountbatten.org.uk  to find out more.
