On Sunday 26th March 2023, we will be running the Sheffield Half-Marathon to raise funds for Sheffield Chinese Christian Church’s (SCCC) Building Fund! 

This will be my first Half-Marathon and we have been training intensely for the last 3 months. Running in the snow, training before 6am and pushing myself to my limits has taught me a lot in the process. The goal is to complete this hilly race within 1 hour and 50 minutes and not let my asthma get the better of me! 

Why are we running? 

Our church building is in serious need of renovation and we would like to help raise money to help maintain this precious space for the generations to come. 

Why raise money for SCCC? 

When I was just 1 years old, my parents and I came from Hong Kong to Sheffield, UK. The community at SCCC were the first people that showed loved and care for my parents and me when we had very little. I am very grateful to those that took care of me, as well as my younger brother and sister who were born in Sheffield. My father studied at the University and my mother worked multiple jobs in between pregnancies to provide for us. As a family, we would have felt very lost and immensely struggled if it was not for the hospitality, love and spiritual encouragement of the church members. 

Having left Sheffield at the age of 6 years old and returning to work as a hospital pharmacist 17 years later, I can confidently call this church my home. I have grown with the help of the church, through the sharing of the good news of Jesus and his love, and he continues to give me hope through the highs and lows of this life. 

The church has been helping families like mine for over 50 years and is playing an important role now more than ever before. Millions of Hong Kong citizens have been coming (and are still coming) over to the UK to find refuge, hope and peace. We continue to pray as a community for the brokenness in the world and look to support those in need where possible. 

The building enables the community to gather to worship, love one another in practical ways and dive into God's word together. The space is very much needed as it provides for people of all ages (families, students, youths and the elderly) and of any background.
