Kyankowe School Kitchen and Water Tower · 6 August 2022

We support the development of rural primary education and rural primary healthcare in the Mityana District of Uganda. We support and promote sustainable development within the local economy without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.

It will be great if we can raise funds so that Kyankowe School's kitchen and water tower can be repaired following a severe storm earlier this year.

St Mary's has been partnering with the church and school in Kyankowe for many years.  Several church people and teachers from Kingsclere primary school have visited there.

Rev. Dodie Marsden from St Mary Bourne runs Mityana Projects Trust, which is the link between parishes and schools in this diocese and Mityana.

Kyankowe Day and Boarding school has about 250 pupils aged 3 - 11 and they are committed to providing lunch for every child.  Lunch is cooked in an outside kitchen which St Mary's Church funded improvements to in 2019.  The kitchen and the school’s water tower were both severely storm damaged this year.

Photos show a pile of rubble where the kitchen used to stand. The water tower has been blown off it's base and across the school grounds.

It will cost over £600 to replace the kitchen and water tower and the school have no funds to do this. The actual cost isn't known yet. They will be managing as best they can in the meanwhile.

Rev. Dodie will be visiting in October and will arrange for this vital work to be carried out. If we raise more money than is needed to do this work Rev. Dodie will allocate the money elsewhere at the school.
