Story
I am very proud to say I am running the Cambridge Half Marathon on the 17th of October 2021 in support of the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre, and am aiming to raise £250.
CRCC was established in 1982 and specialises in offering support services for female victims and survivors of sexual assault. The team offers a helpline, support groups, counselling services and links with independent advocates that give guidance to victims through the criminal justice system should they decide to report the crime. They also offer training for those who wish to become educated on the issues surrounding sexual violence.
CRCC plays a vital role in giving women a safe space to work through such a dark period and get the help and support they need. Counselling services are also available for men, with a currently growing recognition that sexual violence is not only a concern for women. The long-lasting mental effects of such experiences should not need to be dealt with alone. Help and guidance should be widely and easily available to all those who need it.
With ever increasing awareness of the gravity the issue of sexual assault, I want to do my part to keep this momentum going, and I believe that this is a good start. Any amount of money, no matter how small, will help CRCC provide more support through their helpline, their support groups and counselling services.
