Story
We crossed the finish line at Westminster Bridge at 9.45 last night, a few hours behind schedule but to finish was always the main aim. The 125 miles from Devizes were a mixed bag of weather, moods and worrying about our boat - the rudder bust at about mile 80 and I had limited confidence in the repair I cobbled together on the side of the river. However, it was a fantastic feeling paddling through the middle of London and great to cross the finish line. Thanks to John, Jean, Ken, Julian and Emma who supported us fantastically throughout the race. As you all know I am raising money for MOSS. MOSS is a Christian charity that provides small grants to people in developing countries who have experienced hardship, and who can use a small amount of money to make a new start with their lives. Thanks to all those who have already sponsored me and for the messages. If anyone would still like to sponsor me that would be much appreciated.
MOSS (Move On Seed Support) identifies specific needs on a case-by-case basis and enables individual donors to target their support. MOSS depends on the gifts of people who share our concerns. Since our costs are kept to a minimum, more of each gift goes to recipients. Supporters can have personal knowledge of what their donations have achieved. Examples of previous grants include funding school fees for street children in Rwanda, the establishment of a small grocery shop in Bangladesh and the provision of tools to a workshop making disability aids in Zambia.
These grants makes a real difference to the lives of the recipients. In Bangladesh Nuru Miah remains unable to walk despite spinal surgery. His two operations used up all his savings. With a grant from MOSS, he set up a small shop in his town selling groceries. Nuru Miah is now able to support his family by earning his own living.
I've attached a photo of Shofakul from Zambia. Shofakul works for the Centre for Rehabilitation for the paralysed in Lusaka, Zambia. MOSS bought the tools needed for them to produce chairs and other equipment for children with disabilities. Shofakul is using a bandsaw purchased with MOSS funds.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to MOSS and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thanks to those who came and cheered us on along the course.
