Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 10th October I’m running the Isle of Wight marathon in aid of MOSS, a small Christian charity that exists to provide grants to individuals in developing countries to make a real difference in their lives. I’m a trustee of the charity.
Grants are usually less than £500, often significantly less than this. Examples of recent grants include to a cooperative of widows making and selling soap to support their families in Burundi; a Burundian rice farmer; a trainee engineer in Nepal; a roadside shop and vegetable trading business in Kenya; and school fees for children in Kenya & Uganda. We are in direct contact with the recipients of grant funding, aiding accountability and enabling us to update our donors.
We’ve been made aware of a significant need in Jumla, north western Nepal. Monsoon flooding has significantly damaged 5 water mills in the Chhuma and Chaura villages. These mills, upgraded in 2016 with steel turbines, enabled the villagers to mill locally produced corn, wheat & barley. Repairs to each mill - masonry, corrugated steel roofs, replacement turbines and pipework - will cost £700.
The impact of restoring this basic infrastructure to these villages will be huge. Please can I ask you to dig deep and help me reach my target of £3,500 which will see all 5 mills repaired?
