Story
Against my better judgement I recently attempted to summit the 3 tallest peaks in the Rif Mountains of Northern Morocco.
I originally drafted this email after 50 km, 14,000 feet and 29 hours of walking having completed the challenge.
The purpose of my climb was to raise money for Rifcom, a charity that works with the Berber community in the Rif Mountains of Morocco. Founded in 2010 by Julian Campbell, the Charity sponsors numerous community projects covering education, health, sport and environmental conversation.
The climb allowed me the opportunity to witness, at close quarters, the fantastic support the charity provides a relatively impoverished community. A lack of transport Infrastructure makes rural areas very difficult to access so basic services like water,
electricity and education are intermittent at best. During the trip I attended the opening day of a school which Rifcom equipped and built. It was both humbling and enlightening. So much so that I have convinced myself the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro, should be cracked next April.
I was 10 the last time I decided to raise money for charity but 20,000 feet will be much tougher than the mile I walked for St Monica’s Primary School so seize the opportunity, you won’t get another chance.
