Unless you've been living under a rock or you just don't know me, you'll be aware that my lovely Mum died last year - she was 66 - far too early, and I miss her terribly.

Mum had been ill with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis for over 15 years.

It has no cure; it's unknown how people develop it and final treatment is a liver transplant, but that's no guarantee. It's a chronic disease which means the sufferer gets ill slowly over a long period of time, as the body attacks and kills off it's own liver.

Sadly, Mum's transplant was only a partial one as there are not enough organ donors to go around and therefore the one good liver that came in went to 2 people. Mum's failed after 6 days; it had come too late. She got well enough for just a few days only to have it all taken away from her.

The PBC Foundation gave my Mum a lot of support and advice. When things were getting too much, they were there to help out and she made some good friends through it's support group - some of them still keep in touch with my Dad.

It's very hard to get married without my Mum around - I imagine she would be tutting, rolling her eyes, questioning how much I'm spending and why on earth would I want to wear those shoes, but despite this, I want to help those who helped my Mum!

Please make a donation, ideally the equivalent to what you would like to spend on a wedding present for us and please register as an organ donor - you have no idea how much of a difference this can make not only to one person's life, but to everyone they touch. (And let's face it, we don't need them when we're gone - organs that is!)
