Story
Lucy and I are hoping to raise funds for First Touch, the neonatal unit charity at St George's Hospital in London by running a half marathon together. We both work at St George's neonatal unit in London, Lucy as an Infant Feeding specialist, and I as a Neonatal Consultant.
I started my running journey by taking inspiration from one of our lovely neonatal unit mums, Leigh Kendall, mother of Hugo. Like many others, I started at my journey at my local Parkrun (where many good things start!) Lucy started in the summer of 2018, and has managed to combine regular training with work at St George's, and being a mum to two children.
Lucy and I attended a Baby Friendly UK conference together in 2018, and came away inspired with ideas about how to make life better for the babies and families on the neonatal unit. This meant we had a big shopping list! We wanted reclining chairs for parents to rest by their baby's cot whenever they wanted, we wanted cot side expressing pumps for breastfeeding mums, we wanted welcome packs for parents. But most of all, we wanted to support First Touch's core business...providing life saving equipment such as ventilators for our smallest and sickest babies.
