Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London marathon on 21st April 2013 for Bravery Boxes and the Perfect Day Foundation, two very deserving children charities set up by close friends of mine.

This is my first marathon and it has been a tiring and eventful 5 months of training; running in the snow and icy winds, the blisters, getting punched by a crazy woman at Embankment and crying in pain for the last 3 miles of my first (and only) 20 mile run! Despite all this I am nervously excited for race day and really hope I can raise some money for my chosen charities to make all of this hard work worthwhile.

Bravery Boxes is a charity set up by Christine Davies, a colleague of mine at Jones Day, following her son Gabriel's battle with cancer. Following the bravery that he showed in hospital she established 'Bravery Boxes' in Addenbrookes Children's Hospital where Gabriel was treated. The aim of the Bravery Boxes is that every time a child has a painful or frightening procedure, they receive a small prize to reward them for being brave. Siblings of sick children also benefit too, as bravery on oncology wards takes on many different forms. The aim is to introduce Bravery Boxes to all oncology centres in the UK and to do this Christine is in the process of registering Bravery Boxes to ensure fundraising events like running the marathon are easier going forward.

A link to Christine and her husband Dylan's blog, 'Our Precious Gabriel' is here

which describes Gabriel's diagnosis, treatment and recovery from cancer.

The Perfect Day Foundation is a charity dedicated to helping children in Zambia and was set up by my friends Laura Williamson and Richard Saunders. A link to their website is copied below, which explains their work much better than I could in a paragraph!
