Helping Horses

The BHS Welfare Support Team responds to thousands of calls each year from our head office in Kenilworth– and every year our remit becomes wider and our Welfare Advisers are stretched to respond to the demand.
Our Helping Horses appeal is designed to support our essential welfare work and importantly, to change the behaviour, through education, of people who do not look after their horses properly.
We have just over 200 Welfare Adviser around the country to deal with thousands of horses. While Welfare Advisers are voluntary, we have to pay their expenses. We also have to run training days for each one of them, which costs £400 per day.
Other vital work carried out by the BHS includes promoting responsible breeding, lobbying for horsesʼ rights, and running ‘Friends at the Endʼ – a BHS initiative to ensure no horse owner has to face the loss of their equine alone.
