In December 2013 my Grandma passed away. The Purple Butterfly Room was such a comfort to me and my family during that time. It holds a special place in my heart and it would be an absolute pleasure for me to complete the London marathon 2019 knowing I was supporting this charity.
Loosing someone you love is a terrible feeling, however, being in that room with my family and even today remembering how she was in her final moments are such treasured memories of mine. And although sad, it was just beautiful. She saw me arrive and I saw her leave (this one is for you Gran!!!).
Knowing that completeing this challenge will help you continue to provided this facility allowing families to spend time with their loved ones in their last days/hours.
I think everyone should have that. It has brought me and continues to bring me a lot of comfort. I hope my support and hard work helps The Purple Butterfly Appeal to continue to do the fantastic work they already have.
Since my Gran's passing I have always wanted to raise money for this charity and I could never decide what to do..... I wanted it to be big and challenging. I wanted it to be the biggest. I mean who gets a ballot place first time round for the London marathon?! ME!!!!!! 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️

Here's a little insight into who I'm running for and what they do.......
The Purple Butterfly Room
People nearing the end of their lives have the right to choose where they die. While many people prefer to spend their final days at home or in a hospice environment, sadly 60 per cent of people in Rotherham are likely to die in hospital.
We already provide an excellent level of clinical care for patients nearing the end of their lives we work hard to make sure we maintain their dignity and respect their wishes, whatever their illness or condition. What is harder, in a busy hospital, is to provide comfortable surroundings and the appropriate facilities to ensure people can remain in the company of their loved ones as long as they can. With your support, we can ensure the privacy and dignity of patients in our care is not compromised at the time when they need it most.
The charity set up the Purple Butterfly Appeal to help raise awareness about the importance of providing compassionate and specialist end of life care and to raise money to fund Purple Butterfly rooms, which provide privacy, dignity, space and a home from home for people nearing the end of their lives, their families, friends and carers.
Thanks to your dedicated funding, the Trust already has three Purple Butterfly rooms at Rotherham Hospital on Ward A2, Fitzwilliam Ward and the Labour Ward.
Our Purple Butterfly rooms are private, comfortable and include all the necessary equipment and facilities patients and their families need to stay close to remain close to one another when every minute counts.
Each room costs more than £75,000 to install and includes a sofa bed, microwave, kettle and toaster, private shower and bathroom and a television. We are currently fundraising for a fourth Purple Butterfly room and need your help more than ever.
