Race to the Stones · 10 July 2021 to 11 July 2021 ·

Kit Tarka Foundation works to prevent newborn baby deaths primarily through raising awareness of neonatal herpes, funding research, and providing advice for healthcare professionals and the general public.

Story

On 10 July I will be taking part in the Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones Ultramarathon 50km/100km. I usually do these events to challenge myself and because I enjoy them but I would like to run this race for the Kit Tarka Foundation and in memory of baby Joshua.

On 07 February 2021, the day before my daughter was born, my friends Beth and Callum lost their beautiful baby boy Joshua to neonatal herpes (cold sore virus in babies), at just 8 days old. This is a disease which around 70% of adults have, often asymptotic, but it can be fatal if passed on to babies. There is sadly just not enough awareness of this disease in babies and its devastating effects.

Please help me support this charity and raise awareness of the symptoms of neonatal herpes and prevent other families going through the pain. Your support will allow further research into the disease and help people recognise the symptoms to allow for early treatment and prevent loss.

Training with a baby and 4 year old has been tough but nothing compared to what Beth and Callum and so many other families are going through.
