In a moment of madness after completing the Great London 10k last year I decided to go for it and train for a half marathon. I am running the Run to the Beat Half Marathon at the end of September and have decided to run for the mental health charity MIND.
A sobering one in four people will experience a mental health problem at some point in there lives; MIND provides support for many people suffering with a range of difficulties such as anxiety and depression. MIND also supports the family and those around people suffering from mental illness during what can be a very difficult time.
Physical activity can help people with anxiety and depression and even prevent it occurring. I felt therefore it was appropriate to raise money for MIND this way.
I am now finding training very hard and your donation will help motivate me to get across that finishing line and provide vital services and support for people around the UK.
Thank you so much for your support. Laura xxx

TRAINING UPDATES:
14/07/09 Made my JustGiving page, feels like it might happen now. Can currently run a solid 10k. Need to step up distance.
20/0709 Ok, I admit it, I cried whist running on Sunday, it all felt a bit hard! However, I was in the gym at 7am this morning feeling much better and pacing myself again. I am planning to run home from work (SE1 0NS to E11 1LR) at some point in the next fortnight. I'll let you know how I get on.
27/07/09 Great run yesterday, I got the urge to extend the usual 'Wanstead Loop' and ran up to Chingford (Winston Churchill statue) and then round the usual loop. 10.1km, feeling positive!!
02/08/09 Another good long run despite a late night and cider drinking at a festival last night! 11km was the target and I did it running about 10 mins faster than last week and breaking my PB. Maybe a cider-festival diet is a good move!! My mid-week training is helping and is much more effective.
05/08/09 More good training this week, had a session with the trainer at the gym who I think was trying to kill me. I'm tring to steal myself for a short run tonight before the boro game.
13/09/09 Training going well, but not really getting the distance. I have sped up a lot more and my style feels more comfortable. I am now up very early for a Sunday so I can go out on a long 10 mile run. This may be the longest I do before the final thing.
