Following in the great footsteps of Kelly Williams and Saoirse Burgess, I am going to embark on swimming 1500 lengths in the pool which will be the equivalent of half the length of Lake Malawi (75km), in just one month. I'm starting 19th April and must be done by 19th May! The girls have completed one length of Lake Malawi and hopefully all of your support will mean that I can complete another 'lap' back to the midway point... (but not actually stranded in the middle of the Lake, more fainting on the edge of the uni swimming pool). 

 

As part of a group of volunteers, EGP Malawi DAMRA, I am raising funds to build a school block of two classrooms in Mulyezi, a rural area in Northern Malawi with a population of 2000. The project idea was developed after a Participatory Rural Appraisal exercise was carried out in 2009, resulting in the community of Mulyezi ranking the need for a school project highest. 450 children between the ages of 6 and 17 expected to benefit from this amazing project, especially as drop-out and illiteracy rates are high.This project was organised by Edinburgh Global Partnerships, a student-run non-profit organisation.

Eight EGP volunteers will be travelling out to Mulyezi to help the project which begins in early June and we are all currently hard at fundraising! We are seeking to raise £10,864 which will go towards the cost of building materials and skilled labour required for construction with none of your donations going towards personal living or travel costs. So please, any donation is truly appreciated!
