I'm taking on Starlight Walk at Home for Sands (alongside Pete, Albie and our family) on 2nd December  in memory of our brave little bear, Teddy Barrett, born sleeping on 13.10.23. 

Unfortunately, the last few months for us have been the hardest of our lives. After finding out at our 12 week scan that there might be something wrong, we began a long journey of testing and scans to find out more. We had genetic testing which all came back normal, giving us some hope that everything was ok. Sadly, a later scan revealed that our baby had hypoplastic right heart syndrome - a very poorly heart that could never be fixed and if he did survive, he would live a life of pain and surgeries. We had to make the heart breaking decision to end the pregnancy, giving birth to our brave little bear on 13th October and having to say the hardest goodbye to protect him from any pain or suffering. This has been incredibly difficult and we will love and remember Teddy every day, knowing that we had to make the cruelest decision of our lives in order to protect him. 

Sands have been one of the charities that have been able to provide us incredible support through our darkest days, alongside ARC and the bereavement midwives at Stepping Hill. That’s why we are taking part in the starlight walk on December 2nd, lighting our lantern for Teddy and all of the other families in similar situations. 

Sands provide support for bereaved parents and have helped me through very difficult days. They also provide memory boxes for bereaved families. Our memory box will always be one of the most treasured and precious things we own and we are so grateful that we were able to have this. We want to make sure that all bereaved families receive the same.  Every pound you can donate will help Sands to continue to support bereaved families. Just £20 is enough to fund a memory box for bereaved parents, helping them make precious memories with their baby.
