Make-A-Wish UK is part of a global movement that exists to make life-changing wishes come true for the thousands of critically ill children across the UK. The power of a wish allows families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! As some of you will know I am running the 2016 London Marathon on behalf of an amazing charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation. The charity's aim is to fulfil "wish" experiences for children with life-threatening medical conditions. What many of you wont know is the reason behind me running the 26.2 miles and why I chose Make-A-Wish. Well, I am lucky enough to be aunty to an amazing young man called Charlie who was granted a wish and I wanted to give back! Charlie was born with a rare neurological condition called Microcephaly meaning he can't talk or walk without being seriously supported as well as having impaired hearing and vision, and suffering from Epilepsy. As you can probably gather, caring for Charlie is a 24/7 effort involving many pieces of specially designed equipment and a concoction of medicines, making holidays for Charlie and his little sisters impossible. This is where Make-A-Wish come in. Back in 2010 Charlie and family were granted a trip of a lifetime to Disneyland Florida where he was able to swim with dolphins. I think the photo above says it all and that smile is the reason I'm enduring this hellish journey! I'd like to think this is a way of giving back to a charity who made the impossible possible. Any donation however small would mean so much, as I'm sure you can all guess this will be a big struggle for me! As my brother once said; 'you can't even run a tap without getting out of breath'. Forever grateful, let the training begin!
