On March 5th 2017, I'll be attempting to run 13.1094 miles (21.0975 km) in aid of MND Scotland around the streets of Paris, where I'll be working for the second half of my year abroad in France!
Whilst running the Paris Half Marathon is partly a personal challenge for myself, I have chosen to fundraise whilst doing so. MND Scotland is the only Scottish charity providing care and support to people with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), their families, friends and carers.
MND is a progressive disease which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles. It can also cause someone to lose the ability to walk, eat, speak and breathe unaided. Sadly, there is no current cure for MND, but by supporting MND Scotland, you aren't just funding to help find a cure in the future, it is also support for everyone in Scotland who has the disease.
As a close family friend was diagnosed with MND just last year, this has really emphasised for me just how important it is that we continue to help fund research for illnesses such as this one. The more funding and support charities such as MND Scotland have, the closer we will be to finding a cure.
