Story

What running the Virgin London Marathon means to us

LMS: I’ve always loved the London Marathon, the atmosphere on the day epitomises the best of London and Spring to me. I have long held the dream of running it, albeit at
some indeterminate time in the future, when I am thinner and fitter mainly! But
next year doesn’t always come, and why not bite the bullet and push myself
outside of my comfort zone now. I’ve been running regularly now for a couple of
years and in March completed my first half marathon. Yes, I spent 60% of that
chanting “never running a marathon” but hey it’s my prerogative to change my
mind…

LW: I have entered the ballot 6 times and always been unsuccessful, so to run with a friend for a really meaningful charity means a lot. My running journey began after I snapped my achilles a couple of years ago. I used C25k to build up back strength. Always one for pushing myself to the max, and believing the body/mind is capable of anything, next up was a 10k race, followed by The Big Half in March with LMS. Depsite never really thinking I would be able run the whole way, I completed it in a great time and really enjoyed the experience. Then followed two further halfs, before signing up for the Marathon! This will be a real challenge, and not one to be taken for granted. A miserable winter of running in the dark, rain and wind is about to begin!!

Why the J’s

The J’s Hospice is a hospice service providing care to young
adults aged 16-40 across Essex with life-limiting conditions within the comfort
of their own homes. It was setup in 2004 to fill the massive gap between
children’s hospice care and elder care. Recently it has become part of the
Havens group of hospices.

It takes £19,000 a week to continue to provide this service
and your donation will help provide support to a young adult, allowing them to
live their life as they wish, however short.

We are honoured to be supporting this charity; it provides
support to many when they most desperately need it. We are also eternally
grateful to all of our friends and family who are supporting us through this
challenge, thank you!!!!
