Dementia in any form is a cruel disease. It's frightening, isolating, upsetting and lonely for the person living with it, and deeply heartbreaking for those around them.
Dementia isn't just being "old" or "forgetful", or "bonkers", it's a horrible disease that needs more funding and more education into what support is available for patients and their families, and a recognition for how important research and trials can be....
Sadly, I know all too well about the impact of Dementia. My Dad's diagnosis came in 2013 - Dementia with Lewy Bodies. A twist on Dementia, with added hallucinations that are real to my Dad and cause no end of distress. My sisters and I see a little piece of our Dad disappear on a weekly basis.
So, I'm running for our wonderful Dad, for the thousands of people out there living a similar nightmare, I'm running to raise awareness and hopefully a few quid to support a fantastic charity.
