13% of UK adults have tinnitus. That’s more than 8 million people with a recurrent noise in their head or ears, with no known cause and no cure.
For one in eight people, quality of life can be badly affected, leading to problems such as anxiety, depression and sleep deprivation. The British Tinnitus Association are the only national UK charity dedicated to supporting people with tinnitus, and the team has over 70 years of experience with the condition. They deal with a huge range of issues, offering information about dealing with symptoms, coping strategies and signpost people to the best way of accessing support quickly. The support they provide includes a free, confidential helpline, information leaflets and an up to date, comprehensive website www.tinnitus.org.uk.
The British Tinnitus Association is the only national charity specialising in tinnitus support. Their vision is a world where no one suffers from tinnitus. They receive no money directly from the government, so are 100% reliant on the generosity and support of members of the public and grant-making organisations to be able to support people with tinnitus across the UK. All of their work is paid for by the generosity of supporters like you!
My story;
I remember lying in bed with my mum and pulling her ears next to mine as a child and asking if she could hear “that noise”? She must of thought I was mad! I had several hearing tests and was told my hearting was actually amazing! I also had MRI scans to rule out anything sinister but they all came back clear, thankfully! I was told I had Tinnitus in my early teens and was told there was no cure and no idea why I had developed it. I was told to listen to a CD full of ocean/whale sounds to help me sleep and to basically just get on with it! Im very lucky to say that it has not really taken a toll on my mental health as it’s something I’ve always had so I have no idea what it’s like to lay in bed at night and hear complete silence!
I’m hoping to raise £200 for the charity so any donation is greatly greatly appreciated! 🖤
