Story
Having FINALLY completed my first marathon, it's time to set myself a new challenge - a run in the Himalayas! This will be a challenging run involving high altitudes and elevation and maybe even the odd leopard!
I will be visiting Nepal in November. Not only will I be lucky enough to do lots of treking I have also decided to take part in 'Impact Nepal' - a week of working on Community Impact Projects finishing with a run to fundraise for the communities that we visit.
Obviously it is a privilege to be able to do this and the trip will be paid for my me. Any money fundraised will go directly to the charities listed below:
The Impact Marathon Foundation takes the biggest challenges facing Nepal & seeks out the most extraordinary grassroot organisations who are working to catalyse real change in the country.
Childreach Nepal:
Childreach Nepal is a local non-governmental organization in Nepal. They have been consistently working in rural communities since 2010. They believe that every child has the right to live, learn, play, to be safe, healthy and free. Their programmes uses sport to reduce dropout rates in schools and to prevent child trafficking and other forms of child abuse children may face once they drop out of school. One of their key objectives is to empower and encourage girls to raise their voice against harmful traditions and stereotypical thinking.
Burns Violence Survivors:
With 56k of burns cases a year and only 1 hospital ward dedicated, this is a powerful project that goes right to the heart of Nepali culture. Not only tackling the care, but the prevention - a huge challenge when faced with the task of tackling domestic abuse and the use of acid in such attacks.
