A parachute jump to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society · 4 July 2012

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Today, approximately 700,000 people in the UK suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.

Dementia affects one in 14 people over the age of 65, one in six over the age of 80 and it is estimated that there are an additional 15,000 people under the age of 65 suffering from the condition. The projections for the increase in the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease are truly shocking: some estimates project one million sufferers by 2020, at a cost of £20 billion a year.

Although there are treatments to help slow mental deterioration in mild to moderate cases, the cause and progression of Alzheimer’s disease are still not well understood. Nor is there currently a cure for the disease. It is therefore critical that more money is spent on research to help understand how Alzheimer’s disease affects the brain and how it may be prevented in future.

So please help me raise some money for this charity in the hope that one day there will be a cure to this horrible disease.
