At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For the past few years I've been thinking of ways to raise awareness of Alzheimer's and catch people's attention! So I figured, my fear of heights and falling out of a plane, would do just that! and hopefully, encourage you to donate, anything you can, to a cause that is very close to home for so many of us. Myself and my family watched, (feeling helpless a lot of the time) my grandad suffer from this disease for several years. The slow deterioration in the beginning, and the change in him was hard to cope with. Little did we know just how minor this was, when what felt like overnight, his last phase of the disease kicked in and meant he had to move into professional care and leave his home with his loving wife,of over 50 years. The heartbreaking effects this had on the whole family were awful. After my grandad passed away, it was of some comfort to know he wasn't suffering every day anymore. However, seeing the depression and daily mourning of my grandma months after my grandads death, made me realise that its not just the person with Alzheimer's disease who's suffering, but those around them, watching and hoping they're not in pain, that really suffer in silence. And for that reason, I hope the money I raise helps to provide extra support for families out there, just like mine, that could do with advice and a friendly face to talk to when things just get too much to handle alone. Huge thankyou for taking time to read my story, and for any donations you make. Xx
