Travelling to Kenya to volunteer · 25 June 2018

Team Kenya work in partnership with a Kenyan NGO, to educate and empower vulnerable girls and women. Through our work we are supporting and enabling positive transformational change for economically poor and marginalised communities in Ndhiwa, rural Western Kenya.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

In June this year i will be travelling out to Kenya to volunteer with the Team Kenya charity. I will be working to help strengthen the equality of the sexes and helping young girls stay in education. By working with young females we are hoping for a better future where they will have equal opportunities.

What is Team Kenya doing?

One of the saddest tragedies faced by women and girls in this world is that they are often pushed into violent and abusive relationships. This is worse when their own communities are not safe for them.

In rural Kenya this can be common as girls face issues such as early marriage, unwanted pregnancies and deep levels of poverty. Often parents are forced to make difficult choices due to this poverty and so they are forced to marry their daughter (in return for a payment) in order to feed the rest of their family.

Girls in rural Kenya stand at risk of factors such as female genital mutilation, rape, HIV and domestic abuse and we want to stop this by education boys in these rural areas. Team Kenya have set up a project which is doing this, by getting boys together to talk about the harms of using violence so we can make a safer world for girls and women to live in.
