Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As some of you may already know, my dad, Rob Stubbs, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in October 2017. Although for the time being, it is not restricting any aspect of his life and he is still capable going about his day to day business, myself and my family are under no illusion that as the years go by, he will, unfortunately, get worse.

However, my dad being my dad and despite being faced with this rather depressing prognosis, he has decided that whilst he still can, he wants to raise money for a cause that now means so much to him and our family in the hope he can speed the day that no one needs to fear this disease. So, he consulted with Parkinson's UK and came up with Machu Picchu! We now have an eclectic group of 10 friends and family so far, with an age range from early 20's to early 60's, who have all committed to completing this challenge over Easter 2020.

In his youth (or whilst Adam and I were little), my dad was an avid hiker, taking part in treks to the summit of Kilimanjaro, Toubkal and even to Everest base camp. I on the other hand, have always openly commented on my huge dislike for hiking... I'm sure my parents can recall many occasions where I was dragged to North Wales to do a walk and moaned most of the way round, so i'm going to need all the luck I can get!!

So here we are, the training has started! I've joined a gym, purchased some walking boots and i'm beginning to wonder why i've committed myself to do a major hike at altitude that's labelled as 'very difficult' on the tour operator's website! But hey, if nothing else, someones got to help out with the Spanish!

There has been remarkable progress in the quest to find a cure for Parkinson's in the last year. The scientists are getting closer and closer, but as yet there is no cure for this debilitating disease.

Thank you so much for donating, and I promise you your money will be well spent!
