Story
Milton Keynes is experiencing a crisis in youth homelessness and has recently been labelled the Youth Homelessness Capital of the UK.
YMCA Milton Keynes is a local charity that has so far supported over 10,000 vulnerable young people in the city not only with a safe place to stay, but with a range of support services that empower them to belong, contribute and thrive.
At the start of 2020 they will open a brand new campus to help even more people that have experienced homelessness in the city.
Five fantastic organisations in MK had the idea to walk 25 miles in one day to raise awareness of this problem so we can break the stigma surrounding youth homelessness.
Sometimes young people make a few different decisions which land them with no place to stay, often through no fault of their own their options of a safe space to call home expire. The most common reason a young person stays at YMCA MK is because of a relationship breakdown at home.
Team YMCA MK are taking on 25 miles in a day to walk across Milton Keynes (this is the equivalent of walking for about 12 hours from start to finish) to raise enough money to kit our four out of 199 rooms for a young person at the new YMCA MK campus.
They are the only charity in Milton Keynes who provide a home AND support services including mental health and well-being, debt management and simple life skills as they work with their personal development coaches.
By donating to our challenge walk, you have the chance to make all this happen and ensure that a young person has the best second chance in life! To see what your donation can contribute towards visit: https://shop.mkymca.com/
We can't wait to get out there with our walking boots (and probably rain jackets) and knowing you are behind us is a great feeling!
Thanks for listening and we hope you can join our fight against homelessness in Milton Keynes.
