Story

As it is coming up to Christmas, the season of family, friends and celebrations my challenge is to complete a combined 700km run / cycle by 15th December so any money raised can be used before or during the Christmas period and bring some magic to those children's lives that are a daily struggle.

My challenge will be split 250km running / 450km cycling - This is just over the distance from the Royal Hospital For Sick Children, Glasgow to Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, both with Radio Lollipop facilities.

Radio Lollipop Glasgow was not a charity I was aware of until my colleague Markya Cain started gving up her time to help the children in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow this year. At 18 years old, Maryka is selfless with the time she gives up to help the children at the hospital while they undergo medical treatment be it transplant, cancer or organ failure to name a few yet the charity is in need of financial support.

In terms of the charity itself, Radio Lollipop Glasgow is an in-hospital charity which aims to improve both children and families' time in the hospital. With a functional radio station set up, they provide entertainment for the children on the wards. The children can have control of the radio station from their rooms, request songs and even visit the studio if they wish. Along with this, every Monday - Thursday from 6pm - 8pm the volunteers go around the wards with games and arts & crafts for the children to get involved. Ultimately the aim of the charity is to give young patients a voice and a choice during their stay in hospital (they don't always get this with their treatment) and give them a feeling of normality and bring fun to their lives during tough and challenging times.

Each week I will track my progress and keep you all up to date with how much of the 700km I have completed (screenshots of runs, cycles, map my runs etc will be provided).

No matter how big or how small, any donations will go a long way at Radio Lollipop Glasgow and any help to achieve my fund raising target would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Lauren :)
