University of Exeter - The Wainwright Walk · 9 March 2012 ·

The University of Exeter seeks the philanthropic support of its alumni and friends to invest in the University and to further enhance its status as a world-class institution. Generous support helps create a truly excellent and inspiring experience for our students at Exeter.

Story

The Wainwright Walk will raise vital funds to increase access to justice in Exeter by supporting the work of the Community Legal Helpdesk. The Helpdesk, which is run by the University of Exeter Law School and based at Exeter County Court, provides support and guidance to litigants in person involved in civil legal disputes. With reductions in legal aid availability and the proposed cuts to the scope of public funding in key areas such as family and social welfare, initiatives such as this are becoming increasingly important.

The walk will start at the University of Exeter campus and end at the County Court in Exeter city centre. The three mile route will take walkers around the beautiful campus and then into the city centre, with stops at some significant and historic legal landmarks.

The walk is in memory of District Judge Jill Wainwright, a friend of the Law School who was involved in the steering group which envisaged the Community Legal Helpdesk.
