It was the hardest thing I have ever physically done and on the long climb 18Kms long and 1300 Metres in vertical height which is called the Aubisque, This one climb took me over two hours and I though of giving up many times. However the thought of coming back and explaining I had failed was even more painful than continuing.
The weather was very hot 35 degrees and many people succumed to fatigue with about 10% failing to complete the course. The french were magnificent with thousands out cheering us on even though we were hours behind the leaders.
The picture opposite is of me descending with only about
50 Kms to the finish Top speed for the day 65Kms average heart rate over 9 hours 143bpm.
I have been back on the bike since but i do not think I will attempt anything as hard again
I am raising money in memory of a good friend of mine John Tame who died at the age of 56 in 2003 of MND. There is currently no cure for this terrible disease but there is a fund in John's name at Kings Hospital in London that is doing research into finding one.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Psychiatry Research Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now, or I will come round and talk bikes, there that will make you do it
Many thanks for your support.
