Lea's VLM2017

London Marathon 2017 · 23 April 2017 ·
I needed a challenge to get me running again so back in May I entered the Ballot for the London Marathon. Applicants of the London Marathon hear in October if they have a place either via email or a magazine through the post with yes or no.
A week before they were due I suddenly panicked and thought how the hell was I going to run a Marathon when I barley been running/walking 3 miles a run so that week I ran/walked 4 times just in case!
Good job really as the first day the results were due out I had a feeling so I dashed home from work and as soon as I walked into the kitchen I spotted a red A4 plastic covered magazine. I tried peeking through the window to see the result but couldn't so I had to rip my way through it. I felt numb with shock that I had got a place after all some people have entered more than 10 times without success and this year had record number of entries.
I pretty much decided right away I had to pay my entry fee as soon as possible and tell people so I could not back out. I know this is just the start of a long journey I am taking as it will take hours of training just to get to the start line!
Since I found out I am running the London Marathon I have consistently run four times a week to gain a good basis before my training program begins on Boxing Day of all days! Believe it or not the first day is a rest day but going by our household tradition I probably find myself at Saltwood Boxing Day run raising money for Motor Nuerone Disease.
I believe I have been given this opportunity for a reason so could not turn it down so have decided it is a perfect way to raise money and support Kent Kidney Patient Association please see bottom of the page for the great ways they support patients in Kent with End Stage Renal Disease. If you fancy a great day out come support me on the route as I am going to be out there a while and will have to dig deep to achieve my goal of running up the mall to the finish line to get my bling!
