Story
The past year has been tough for everyone but coronavirus has hit people affected by dementia the hardest and continues to disrupt lives. So that's why I'm making a splash and taking on Swim for Dementia. Please donate to support me and ensure Alzheimer's Society can be there for the people who need them most.
My amazing and beloved Nan was diagnosed with dual dementia and Alzheimer's several years ago. Since then I have had to watch as she slowly deteriorates, and this cruel disease robs her of the woman she once was. We are lucky at the moment, that she still has lucid moments, and isn't completely unable to do normal day to day things - she just requires quite a bit of help, that myself, my mom, and my uncle give to her daily.
Recently, during a family holiday, I saw just how much my nan suffers, and it broke my heart. I am dreading the day when she succumbs to these illnesses, and they take her from me completely. I am also petrified that myself or other family members will develop these conditions as well.
Alzheimer's and dementia are cruel and ruthless. I am taking part in this challenge in the hopes of raising money to help others who suffer like my Nan, and to help the families of those sufferers.
