Nystagmus means involuntary movements of the eye. It impairs vision, affecting focus and depth perception. At least 1 in 1,000 babies are born with nystagmus. There is currently no cure. The Nystagmus Network is a UK registered charity which provides support, raises awareness and funds research.

Leah's story:
I am raising money for Nystagmus Network because I have Nystagmus and it has made a considerable impact on my life - and my impairment isn't as severe as others. Some people find it a lot harder than me to achieve everyday tasks such as crossing the road. Nystagmus is a condition that causes uncontrollable movement of the eyes, and is not widely known about. On the 4th November it is Wobbly Wednesday (Nystagmus Awareness Day) and is a chance to make more people aware of this condition. We are doing the Zipwire on the 14th November (now 23rd Jan due to cancellations because of weather).

Lately, having Nystagmus has really affected me as I have been unsuccessful with driving. This is impacted on my work arrangements, career aspects and general hobbies. Relying on public transport is OK for many things but not when I want to get to places that aren't accessible by public transport. I want to raise money for the charity so researchers can do more to understand this condition, and maybe one day find a way to help. - There is currently nothing to stop Nystagmus as doctors and medical experts don't know enough about it.
