LATCH supports families affected by childhood cancer get the help and care they need, and never face the journey alone. We are here for hundreds of children each year across Wales, providing them and their families bespoke emotional support, information, practical and financial help. .

Story

LATCH Welsh Children's cancer charity is based at the Children's Hospital and aims to support the children and their families who are being treated in the Oncology Unit. There are many ways in which it helps, from the provision of on-site accommodation and a social work service to financial assistance through grants and emotional support. LATCH also organises a range of activities and treats to help boost the morale of the children during their long stays in hospital. Finally, LATCH supports the Paediatric Oncology Unit directly through the purchase of equipment and a range of clinical projects aimed at making the lives of children more comfortable on the wards and ensuring they are getting the best clinical support when they are at home and during the last few days of their lives.

We live in a very small community but one that has been hit hard by a lot of tragic events over the years. Somewhere along the line LATCH has been a support network for us all and we would all like to show our support in raising as much money as possible to help this great charity.

Everyone has their own story and I would like them to share it also this is mine and my families:

In March 2004 my brother was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour, he fought the battle for about 10 months and despite receiving excellent care and treatment at the Oncology Unit in the Children's Hospital of Wales Cardiff, sadly died at home on December the 19 2004.

My brother would have been celebrating his 21st birthday this year and there for I think it’s important that I do something special in remembrance of it. During the time my brother was receiving treatment for his tumour he was a strong supporter of LATCH and did a lot of his own fundraising.

I would like to continue my brother’s work in fundraising and continue supporting LATCH and helping others in his memory and the memory of those who also have been taken from us far too early as well as those who I am pleased to say have fought and won the battle ! I would be very grateful if you would support us in our attempt to raise as much money as possible.

As a family we have had the privilege of seeing the tremendous work LATCH does and would like to show our appreciation for the support they have given us, as well as other families within our local community, and to help them to continue their good work. Our community may be small but it is strong and therefore it is important that we stick together in events like these. Please help us raise as much as possible.
