Story
I hate running. It's boring, you get exhausted for no reason. I'll concede that it's probably rather good for you, but given the choice I'd rather do (almost) anything else to keep active.
So why am I?
Just before Christmas last year I went to the doctors and during the meeting discovered that I had 2 potential symptoms for Breast Cancer. I was made a priority referral given the nature of the symptoms.
I was lucky enough to be given the all clear 2 weeks later, but those 2 weeks were a real shock for me and I'm not ashamed to say that I was more than a little scared. I decided that I wanted to do something to raise money for an organisation that does something to support people who don't get the all clear as well as to spread the message among my friends to check themselves and know what they're looking for...in conversations it seems I wasn't the only one to not realise exactly what to watch out for.
I can only begin to imagine what it must be like to be diagnosed and so I hope you will join me in offering support to those who weren't fortunate enough to have been given the all clear. These symptoms were not anything I knew to look out for and so if you're reading this PLEASE make sure either you or the women in your life know what they're looking for. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Cancer-of-the-breast-female/Pages/Symptoms.aspx
I also wanted to set myself a personal challenge. Most of you will know my opinion on running for prolonged periods of time. It is not my favourite thing to do, but I am doing it because I want to do SOMETHING to help.
At the very least you can donate to make sure that I - finally - do a run. Without flip flops.
