Leaside provides fun outdoor education activities to disadvantaged and disabled young people in East London. We deliver free training and qualifications and encourage young people to become positive role models in the community and develop their leadership skills and ambition.

Story

Update 17th Sept 09: DEAR ALL, UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO WINDS OF OVER 35MILES PER HOUR, LEADING TO CHOPPY WAVES UP TO 2METRES HIGH COMING STRAIGHT DOWN THE CHANNEL (DIRECTLY ACROSS AS WE PADDLE) WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO ATTEMPT THE CHALLENGE OVER LAST WEEK OR THIS WEEK.

WE ARE NOW HOPING TO RESCHEDULE FOR THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF NOVEMBER- IN CASE IT WASNT CHALLENGING ENOUGH, LETS ADD THE COLD WEATHER IN AS WELL!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON OUR PROGRESS.

Andrew.

GOOD WEATHER ALL OVER ENGLAND-BAD WEATHER IN DOVER!!!

WINDS 25-35 MILES PER HOUR, SWELL AND WIND CHOP UP TO 9FEET GOING SIDEWAYS STRAIGHT DOWN THE CHANNEL AT VERY CLOSE INTERVAL.

NO IMPROVEMENT IN FORECAST OTHER THAN AN OUTSIDE CHANCE OF GETTING MONDAY MORNING- CROSSING THE FINGERS WHILE EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE UK PEOPLE ARE SUNBAKING!

The is the busiest shipping lane in the world. It contains container ships and super tankers, strong currents, rough water, the legendary English weather, hypothermia and jellyfish… Imagine paddling for 10 hours straight, over 70km, from to and back.

On , Andrew will be attempting the FIRST EVER Double crossing of the in a Surf Ski. Dave and Chris will both be crossing the in a surf ski as well.

The purpose of the paddle is to raise money for the Leaside Educational Trust, an organisation helping under privileged kids in by providing outdoor educational pursuits. This is a vital outlet for the energy and enthusiasm where traditional teaching methods often fail.

In an area where crime, poor housing, low academic attainment and unemployment are rife, the Leadside Educational Trust provides opportunities for younger under-privileged people to shine through sport and the outdoors, particularly through paddling.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could make a donation to our cause. Thank you very much,

Andrew, Dave and Chris.
