It costs the charity £40 a day to provide Will's Woodland. Within 3 weeks of opening we had 40 families booked in for 3 night each. To provide this facility to 100 families in 2023 we need to raise £12k. Please support Little Hero so we can continue.

Story

Wills Woodland is a retreat in Devon exclusively for families on a childhood cancer journey. Set in a private 6 acre woodland, this is an opportunity to take a break away from a hospital setting, in safety and seclusion, to find time to just be as a family. When children are undergoing treatment, theyre often neutropenic and susceptible to infection, so finding things to do is particularly tricky. They can spend a lot of time in isolation due to a compromised immune system and never-ending infections. The reality of sitting in a room for weeks is extremely and for a young child. We want to ensure patients can still experience some of the things that other children their age enjoy and we want to help families, wherever they are in their treatment journey, to be able to spend special time together. You can read more about the families that visit Will's Woodland, and just how much your support means to them. https://www.littlehero.org.uk/shortbreads

We launched Little Hero in 2019 after our little boy Will died following a 9 month battle with an aggressive version of a brain tumour called Medulloblastoma. Despite the devastating impact this had on our family, we were inspired by Will and his amazing fight and wanted to continue his effort to support other families. We have the following charitable aims: To fund critically needed research into new treatments for childhood brain tumours. To support other UK families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis. Our efforts have two main programme in flight: We are creating ‘Will’s Woodland’! A retreat in Devon for families on a childhood cancer journey to be able to take a free break in safety and seclusion away from a hospital setting to find time to just be as a family. This is amazingly important as these vital months of life are often dominated by a hospital environment. We are funding INSTINCT 2, a new 5 year research programme into developing new treatments into childhood brain tumours led from Newcastle university. This is the major UK effort in discovering new potential clinical treatments and comes at a critical time where new genetically tailored or immunotherapy treatments are due to emerge alongside more traditional (and sadly only partly effective) chemo/radiotherapy.
