This year, I'm taking on the almighty challenge of the London Marathon to raise money for the children's charity Radio Lollipop.

For those who don't know, Radio Lollipop is a play therapy service based in hospitals up and down the country.  Our specially trained volunteers visit the poorly children on the wards, armed with toys, games and activities to offer them some distraction from their pain and woes. The biggest toy in our toy box is our radio station which we broadcast from our child friendly studios in our host hospitals. 

One in four children are admitted to a hospital before reaching age 14.  Though some patients are short-stay, many have a recurring need for care and return repeatedly to hospital. Some who are terminally ill spend much of their short lives in hospital.

I have been a volunteer with Radio Lollipop for over 20 years.  In my time as a volunteer I have been a DJ, a ward visiting volunteer, a chairperson, a fundraiser, and helped to establish our flagship station at GOSH.  Above all else however, I help to make poorly children smile, at a time when they need to smile most. 

This year I am specifically fundraising for our Southampton branch, which is fundraising for a playroom refurbishment and I'd be delighted if you could help me to do so.  Whether you can spare a few pennies, or a few pounds, your money will go directly towards making a difference to the poorly children.
