Lee Parrish: My “Just Giving” Story – Fundraising for the Dove Service
I decided to raise funds for the Dove Service due to my experience as a foster carer with my wife. We were asked if we felt the child had any need for counselling, due to her birth mother having to be deported from the UK, and as you can imagine, a child being separated from a mother is an extremely distressing and upsetting time, therefore, counselling was an avenue we explored.
The Dove Service came highly recommended to us by other foster carers who had used the service in the past to help support children under their care. When we looked into counselling further, we didn’t realise that the Dove Service operate as a charity and that's when we came across their “Help Us fly” fundraising campaign, via their website.
Knowing about the work the Dove Service do within the local community and how they enable people to receive the highest quality of care was a big factor for us in choosing a charity to raise funds for.
That’s why Steve and myself (the ‘Dove Duo’), decided to run the half marathon at this year’s ‘Stoke-on-Trent Festival of Running’ in July, as we feel it will be a great way to support the Dove Service, whilst giving something back to the community at the same time. The race starts at the Bet365 stadium in Stoke and finishes at Port Vale FC on Sunday 15th July 2018.
We hope we can count on you to help us raise much needed funds for the Dove Service, who are based in Hanley, S-O-T and who operate within S-O-T, North Staffordshire and Cheshire, providing support to children from the age of 4+ and adults who are experiencing issues relating to bereavement, significant loss or life-changing illness.
