I am taking part in this years London to Brighton bike ride in memory of my Grandad John Sawford. A former Royal Marine Commando who served his country in WW2 piloting one of the many landing craft on the beaches of Normandy.

He was a brilliant Grandad with a great sense of humour and a caring nature. Much loved and always remembered.

He suffered two heart atttacks in his later years but thanks to great NHS care and the support of the BHF we were lucky enough to enjoy his company for a few extra years.

Always one to think of others I hope that he would be proud that we were raising funds for charity in his memory.

Last year with your fantastic support we raised £1111 for this cause which placed us in the top 5% of Justgivings fundraisers for the year.

On the basis that there needs to be a fresh challenge to encourage your support this year I aiming to complete the 54 mile ride in less than 3 and a half hours which requires an average speed of approx 17.5 miles an hour (as opposed to just finishing it last year) this means shaving over 50 minutes off last years ride time so the training for this year has in some ways been more intense than last year with the emphasis on both distance and speed.
