Story
I was looking for a charity challenge to pluck up some motivation to get fitter whilst also hopefully helping to raise some funds for a worthy cause. I came across this 'Cycle 300km in 30 days' challenge for the NSPCC and it instantly jumped out as the one to go for.
Messing around on my bike as a teenager was great fun but I'm a rookie when it comes to proper cycling and haven't owned a bike in over 10 years. I realised I needed help, luckily Dan was crazy enough to join in the challenge. With Dans experience and guidance, I'm hoping we can make it to the end in one piece! Although we wont be able to ride every km together, we will hopefully be able to get together for some bigger rides along the way.
I've now got a bike (thanks to Hartshill Cycles), helmet is bought & so it's time to start pedalling!
We'll be logging and updating our progress through Strava, so feel free to check out how far we've done and more imporatantly, how far we've got left until we cross the finish line of 300km each and popping the champagne (or more probably a keg of beer).
Every childhood is worth cycling for, so we're taking on Ride30 to help protect children from abuse.
Over the past year, our lives, and the lives of children, have changed in ways we couldn't have imagined. As we are both Dads of young families and as restrictions begin to ease, what better time to take on a challenge that could change the lives of many children for the better?
Any donations are massively appreciated and will help to spur us on along the way.
How your donation could help: - £4 could pay for one of our trained volunteer counsellors to answer a child's call for help to Childline.- £22 could pay for a helpline practitioner for one hour, providing vital help and support to adults concerned about a child's welfare.- £54 could pay for a Childline supervisor for two hours, supporting our volunteer counsellors.
A huge thanks,
Lee & Dan
