Story

Hello everybody!

Blue=Pre-run, Red=Post-run

BRILLIANT!

The Great North Run was great! I'd recomend doing it to anybody who's fit enough, I really enjoyed it. I have beat all the targets I set and it feels great. Thank you to everybody who has sponsored me and supported me over the past few months. I'm really proud of the amount of money you have helped me raise for charity, you're all brill! It was such a relief when I crossed the finish line, it made all of the training worth it. Now, I'm not going to keep you in suspense any longer, because I know you've came on here to find out my time for GNR and to see pictures of me sweating and grimacing as I approach the finish line!

My Official Time:   1:42:31 (That's Hrs:mins:secs, not days:hrs:mins!)

Race Position:   2446 (If you don't believe me go to: http://secure.greatrun.org/results/quickresults.php )

Pictures:    www.marathon-photos.com You'll need to enter my runner number 10375.

Introduction

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I'm running the Great North Run for two charities, Arthritis Research Campaign and Breast Cancer Care. Unfortunately I can't have a web site which has two charities on. So, please don't forget to visit my other page at http://www.justgiving.com/leesrunarc. I want the money to be split fairly evenly but the choice is up to you. Training is going well for me to complete the run in well under two hours. I'm organising a fundraising event in Asda Boldon, see below for more. I already have lots of 'offline' sponsors who you can find below.

Fundraising Event

I ran 13.1 miles on a treadmill in Asda Boldon, on Sat 9th September. Thank you very much to those that came along to donate there and encouraged me to keep going! The treadmill was kindly provided by www.hireatreadmill.co.uk. A special thanks to the people who stayed for most of the run holding heavy collecting buckets! That is, Brenda, Ryan, Steven and Jade! Thank you so much!  The event raised £304 for Tickled Pink and ARC. It felt great when we realised how much there was while we were counting it. Absolutely blew my target out of the water, which was a modest £1 per minute.

Publicity

The Sunderland Echo are running a story to help publicise my event and fundraising. I was informed on 05/10/06 that I was in the Echo in the first week of September; I don't know anybody who noticed. The Gazette is running a follow up story soon.

Training

Date; Distance (Miles), Time(Mins), Mins per Mile (Mins)

12/08; 7M, 58:40, 8:22

19/08; 8M, 63:00, 7:53

26/08; 10M, 83:48, 8:23

12/09; 6M, 41:45, 6:55 (teamwork with Tony, Thanks BIG GUY!)

19/09; 6M, 50:00, 8:20 (a few too many nights drinking last week, and celebrating my cousin's wedding - Congratulations Angie and Lee!)

23/09; 15M, 130:00, 8:40 (training back on track - bring on the GNR!)

Estimated pace for GNR: 8:30 mins per mile

Target time: 1:51

Actual GNR time:   1:42:31

That's 7:49 per mile, AMAZING!

I don't know how I ran that fast, after the panic at the start when I thought I wasn't gonna get into my start zone because I was late. I was well up for it and my adrenaline was pumping! The atmosphere was great from start to finish, it even continued to when I stopped at Scotch Corner on my way to uni, where I found lots of people wearing the same shirt! Also, the people who came out to support the runners and the people who cold run and encourage others to keep going really helped.

This is a really useful site to work out running distances and routes: http://www.webwalking.com/googlemap.htm

Thanks for your support!

See you soon,

                           Lee

It's completely up to you how, when and what to donate. If you want to know what time or if I completed the GNR you can go to their website, a few weeks after the run and put in my runner number: 10375 (it's green, in case you want to try spotting me on TV).

Gift aid

Basically the amount you sponsor me is the amount you pay, then gift aid is added on top of that. Your tax bill for the year must be greater than the amount of gift aid in order for it to be added. Also, see transaction charges below the card charges are NOT added ontop of your donation.

Offline Sponsors

Loads of friends, family and colleagues have sponsored me quite a lot so far. My mam, dad and girlfriend, to mention a few. Thanks a lot everybody!

N.B. the 'offline' amount on this page is only half of the total raised, because of the split between arc and breast cancer care.
