Flying through the clouds from over 10,000ft at up to 120mph?!

Donations are still on. Our contributions fo make a difference. The Salvation Army wonderful community are grateful for our support.

Here is my story.

I am skydiving in Cambridgeshire to express my gratitude to the wonderful community of St Athanasios church in Cambridge for the genuine love they have embraced me with since we met for the first time two years ago while my family was going through chaos with the sudden loss of of my 25-year old daughter Despina-Rafaella

It is important if we can feel gratitude in life even through the chaos of grief. Our gratitude becomes even more meaningful when it is purposeful.

The purpose of my skydive is to raise awareness on a particularly significant and worryingly expanding worldwide social issue - modern slavery.

In 2022 I  had the opportunity and honour to work on a translation project of a book entitled Protecting the Vulnerable -Addressing the Sin of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, edited and co-authored by His Eminence the Archbishop of Thyatira and Great Britain, Sir Nikitas Lulias. I was deeply moved and alerted when I came across the facts on human slavery presented in this book.

Modern slavery generates millions of dollars in profit annually making it one of the most lucrative criminal activities globally.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Walk Free Foundation, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), released Global Estimates of Modern Slavery in September 2022. This report estimates that, at any given time in 2021, approximately 27.6 million people were in forced labor.

In the year ending 2020, 4,946 children entered the National Referral Mechanism claiming to be victims of trafficking and exploitation in the UK.

Children account for half of the victims of human trafficking. In fact, the average age that a young person becomes involved in sex trafficking is 12 years old.

Among other organisations who fight against modern slavery the Salvation Army  provides specialist support to protect and care for all adult survivors of modern slavery in England and Wales through a government contract which was first awarded in 2011.

new and extended contract came into force in January 2021 through which survivors of modern slavery are now entitled to support at all stages of their recovery.

This is my story of a purposeful action that will fly me through the clouds from 10,000ft.

This is an  action of love for others and your support is of tremendous importance.

Let us spread the light of love to those who seriously need it.

Let us all help make this world a better place for everyone, especially the vulnerable people.

My skydive is inspired by the endless love for my two wonderful daughters Elena and Despina-Rafaella who have taught me that there is nothing more brightening and warm hearting in life than spreading the light of unconditional love to others. I am also grateful to my father who taught me how to skydive in life challenges and keep moving on.
