Aim
To run the marathon distance (26.2miles) every day through the remainder of lockdown, shared between a group of local lads using their daily exercise allowance.
Background
In this age of isolation where our daily lives have changed beyond all recognition, we’ve quickly had to adjust to a new normal. There have been some real challenges to navigate and it can sometimes feel frustrating not being able to do more to help the local cause - it’s for this reason we’ve come together to give back to the Jersey community.
From Monday 20th April, we’ll be using our collective daily exercise allowance to run a full marathon every day through the remainder of lockdown - that’s a total weekly distance of 183.4miles for an (as yet) undetermined number of weeks! We will be running individually to ensure we adhere to social distancing.
The team of runners is made of Bryan Wilkins, Jon Stevens, Garry Yeardley, Jamie Ellis, Zach Mahe with support provided by Craig Barrie, Steve Meredith and Phil Clarke.
We're not totally unfamiliar with a challenge - two years ago we ran around the 5 Channel Islands in 48hours, a total distance of 108 miles, raising over £12,000 for a local mental health charity. More info provided below:
About the Charities
We are raising money for the Island’s response to the pandemic through local charities the Grace Trust, The Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul who have co-ordinated a central Jersey food bank. Their focus in these exceptional times is to provide food deliveries, toiletries and other essentials to those on our island most in need.
